Jan Fryer, Visitation Pastor
Jan Fryer joined the St. John’s family in 2014. As Visitation Pastor (part-time), he visits our shut-in and other church family members, provides home communion, and preaches & provides pastoral care when Pastor Jeff is not available. He also serves St. John’s as a Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, choir member, and counselor with New Hope Christian Counseling. Jan is passionate about winning souls for Christ, providing divorce counseling, supporting local police work, and participating in disaster recovery.
He was licensed to preach in the Evangelical Congregational Church in 1989 and served churches in Hazleton and Palmyra, PA. After retiring from full-time pastoral ministry, he worked as a 911 Dispatcher and an Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
Jan specializes in premarital, marriage, and divorce counseling and has been a DivorceCare facilitator for 33 years. He is a certified sexual assault counselor by the Pennsylvania Council Against Rape and has served as a hotline counselor with the Sexual Assault Resource & Counseling Center. He serves as chaplain for the North Londonderry Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police Troop H Bureau of Education and Instruction. He is certified in both peer and group Critical Incident Stress Management and has experience debriefing first responders, military veterans, and victims of disasters.
He graduated from the International Conference of Police Chaplains with a Master of Law Enforcement Chaplaincy in 2015, from Evangelical Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1995, and from Penn State University with Bachelors degree in General Arts and Sciences in 1991 and an Associate degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences in 1989. He put his faith in Christ as a child at Auburn Youth Camp. He lives in Palmyra with his wife Kathy, has four children and six grandchildren, and loves woodworking and reading.
